Night and Day is an online journal that contrasts my dreams with my daytime activities. I started it because I thought it would be interesting to see what, if any connection I could find between the ideas expressed in my dreams and the activities that took place in my daily life. But dreams don’t always correspond directly to our days, and so these entries don’t necessarily correlate. They simply detail some mysteries of the psyche.
I refer to these posts as episodes because I only recall my dreams sporadically, and because they are at best loosely connected to my days. Sometimes the symbols and metaphors of our dreams make sense to us, and we can understand why we had a particular dream. Other times it seems like our unconscious is just spinning out junk that has accumulated somewhere in our mind as a way of cleaning house.
Either way, I think we can benefit from paying attention to our dreams, because there is usually a message in there. It’s all a bit mysterious and it takes practice, but if you can learn how to interpret your dreams through the symbols created by your unconscious, you can learn a lot about yourself.
